in billions while innocent people are being murdered with the deadly drug AZT." He continued, "We have all been lied to and sold a bill of goods by a handful of unscrupulous, immoral scientists that care more for money and power than for the truth and human life itself."
His hypothesis asserts that the drug AZT, which he said was shelved over 20 years ago because it was found to be too toxic to give terminally-ill cancer patients, is in large part causing the disease known as AIDS. “Read the side effects of AZT listed in its own package inserts cancers, hepatitis, dementia, mania, depression, muscle atrophy, among others— these aren't side effects, this is AIDS."
Willner, whose medical license was revoked in March, claims that he is not the only person who supports this theory. Dr. Peter Duesberg, a professor of molecular biology at the University of California; and Kary Mullis,
winner of the Nobel prize in medicine, share his contentions about HIV and AIDS.
After the event, ACT UP issued a statement encouraging people to continue practicing safer sex, but said that in light of the work of Willner, and Duesberg, along with many others, enough doubt exists in the "HIV equals AIDS" theory to warrant further investigation.
The memo stated, "It is well past time to reconsider and question what we know, and what we are being told about HIV and AIDS."
Kelly Thompson of ACT UP added, "The most important thing about the day's events was that Dr. Willner was here and he got the message out. The medical and research community is still stuck in the old paradigm that HIV = AIDS, and what we are trying to do is present an alternative theory, because obviously, the last 13 years of medical research has not produced any progress. ACT UP will continue to explore diverse theories."

to mainstream gays.
"I don't know if a gay leader with a record of jail time trying to overthrow Marcos, and a record of trying to support leftist Marxist causes, is what the gay movement needs -right now," he said.
Elizabeth Birch, a lawyer for Apple Computer Inc. who was recently selected to head the Human Rights Campaign Fund, the other Washington gay-rights lobby, called Paras "a gifted manager."
Paras' predecessor, Peri Jude Radecic, returned to her old position as public policy director after the task force developed budget and personnel problems. Paras says she hopes to restructure the organization and nurse it back to financial health.
For the past four months, Paras has headed a transition team at NGLTF, assessing the organization's strengths, challenges and duties, and developing a plan for NGLTF's next two years that will include the creation of a leadership team, the full activation of the NGLTF Policy Institute, and a revamped field operation, focusing on the needs of local activists.
Paras, who has also assisted in stabilizing NGLTF's finances, said the incoming GOPcontrolled Congress will make future federal legislative victories difficult.
But she voiced optimism about the possibility of gains in the courts, and in society generally. She said she expects to see domestic partnership benefits extended to gays by more businesses and a rise in diversity training that includes lesbians and gay men.
